Consortium
Against the background of changing governance structures in science there is an increasing demand for bibliometric analyses and elaborated indicators. To meet these expectations, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has been funding the development of a "Competence Centre for Bibliometrics for the German Science System" since December 2008. In order to reach the critical mass that is necessary for the development of new methods and products and to bring the broad know-how together, a consortium was founded. The Institute for Research Information and Quality Assurance (iFQ) is the consortium manager, the other members are: Fraunhofer Institute for System und Innovation Research (ISI), Institute for Science and Technology Studies (IWT) of the University of Bielefeld and FIZ Karlsruhe. In this Competence Centre for Bibliometrics iFQ, ISI and IWT are responsible for research and development. Bibliometric sub-projects are suggested to a scientific board, which gives research grant recommendations to the BMBF. FIZ Karlsruhe is responsible for hosting and implementation of the in-house database.
